The following application shows how subgraph analysis might occur within a scaled-down model for porting a distributed algorithm from one kind of parallel architecture to another. A distributed algorithm is an algorithm that has been designed so that different steps are executed simultaneously on different processing units within a parallel computer.

In the last decade, more and more attention has been paid on cooperative control of multi-agent systems (MASs) owning to various application in coordination of mobile robots, formation control of unmanned vehicles (Antonelli, 2013; Cao, Yu, Ren, & Chen, 2013; Ge, Han, & Zhang, 2018; Jadbabaie, Lin, & Morse, 2003). As one important cooperative control problem, the consensus problem of MASs is to design a distributed algorithm to make all agents reach an agreement on certain quantities of interest through information exchange between neighbours (Olfati-Saber & Murray, 2004; Ren & Beard, 2005; Zhao & Zhang, 2017). Most of the existing literature on continuous-time MASs assume that the information transmission among agents is also continuous (Zhan & Li, 2015; Zuo, Han, Ning, Ge, & Zhang, 2018). Such consensus algorithms might become impractical in many applications over advanced digital communication networks. Thus, it is necessary to design consensus protocols based on a digital control platform (Ding, Han, Ge, & Zhang, 2018). One possible approach is to use sampled-data control. The main feature of sampled-data control is that the state of the agents are sampled and the sampled signals are transmitted to the agent and its neighbours so that consensus protocol can be designed. Methodologies for designing consensus protocols of sampled-data MASs in the literature are studied from two aspects: a time-triggered methodology and an event-triggered methodology (Ge, Han, Ding, Zhang, & Ning, 2018).
