Data collection, processing, and database management
Published in Zongzhi Li, Transportation Asset Management, 2018
Data modeling is a process of extracting information from various data stored in the database and making such information into relations. Objects of data modeling are the physical-geographical sphere and socioeconomic components. Figure 3.14 illustrates the data modeling process. It begins with the physical environment. Geodetic, cartographic, and photogrammetric methods help create the subjected environment model with a certain structure, content, and accuracy. The environmental model can recreate its functional data model. Aided by computer technologies, the data model could use the database for a wide range of analyses and applications.

The diagrammatic aspect of logical data modelling (LDM) is referred to as the entity relationship diagram (ERD), as shown in Figure 1.3. The ERD has four main components: entitiesrelationshipsdegreeoptionality.

What is analytics? [11] According to several schools, it is a form of data modeling for which there appear to be four types: descriptive, diagnostics, predictive and prescriptive. A very recent issue of ORSA today [12] defines business analytics as a multidisciplinary activity that lies at the intersection of computer science, statistics, mathematics (esp. optimization), and business.

The static data in these requirement provides the basic concepts needed to describe data and relationships. Consistent with the general discussion of the questions is through data modelling. That is the process of defining what data is used or produced in an information applications and how that data is organised. The basic tool for data modelling is called an entity-relationship diagram. In system analysis, we have to define each of data classes to present these data group from user requirement or activities. Figure 9 shows the first level data class for helicopter maintenance system and detailed entity defined with atribute values by ERD in Figure 10.
