A Survey on Packet Switching Networks

The main difference between SVCs and PVCs is that the SVCs are connection-oriented, which means connections must be formed prior to the data transfer process, while the PVCs always has a logical connection present. The Packet Switched Network Administrator configures logical connections. SVCs are no more different than telephone calls. Like the telephone calls, a connection is also formed in SVCs, and after that, the data is transmitted, and, in the end, the connection is terminated. In this network, Data Terminal Equipment (DTE) are the end-users, while Data Circuit-terminating Equipment (DCE) are the devices connected to DTEs. Each DTE has its unique DTE address on the network used to get connected with other DTEs.
