To establish a relation between corrosion inhibitor effectiveness and its structure, a widely known inorganic and physical chemistry Hammett equation describes a linear free-energy relationship relating reaction rates and equilibrium constants for many reactions. It was published in early 1937 [32] regarding benzene derivatives and then applied by many physico-chemists for quantitative description and prediction of chemical reaction rates (electrochemical reactions [33] and in corrosion inhibition [34]).
