The earlier research from our lab revealed that Azodicarbonamide (ADC) might be a potential replacement for the conventional sodium azide-based fuel in gas generant (Aravind et al. 2020). Azodicarbonamide is an excellent blowing agent that is frequently used in the plastics industry. When burned with the right oxidizers, it can generate gaseous products. Its low decomposition temperature and faster gaseous N2 release upon ignition are crucial factors when designing an airbag inflator (Hara et al. 1998). The ability of Azodicarbonamide with various potential oxidizers such as potassium nitrate, sodium nitrate, strontium nitrate, barium nitrate, potassium periodate and sodium periodate to release nitrogen gases during airbag inflation allured our attention.
