Stress analysis

Stress analysis is the process of calculating and determining the stresses that materials and structures are subjected to when loaded with various types of forces. It is an engineering discipline that employs multiple methods to analyze and evaluate the stresses in a loaded part. The calculation of the stresses in a loaded part is referred to as stress analysis. The calculation of the strength in a fabricated part is called strength analysis. The author has developed over the past 30 years a considerable number of analytical and empirical relationships that permit an engineer to make reliable calculations of the strength of the material after fabrication by many of the manufacturing processes, including welding and forming. The author has developed the apparent rules of strain strengthening by means of which an engineer can quite accurately calculate the value for any strength in any direction in a cold-formed part. He has also developed a method to calculate the load-carrying capacity of arc-welded members based on the welding conditions of arc voltage, current, and welding speed. By the application of these techniques, the reliability of mechanical components is greatly increased.

In continuum mechanics, stress is a physical quantity that expresses the internal forces that neighbouring particles of a continuous material exert on each other. Stress analysis also investigates the causes of structural failures.
