Frequently Asked Questions

We want to make sure you are well equipped to progress through our application and recruitment process here at Taylor & Francis. That’s why we have addressed some commonly asked questions below to assist you in making your application.

We are a global company and our recruitment processes will vary from country to country. The vast majority of our vacancies are in the UK so these FAQs have been written primarily from a UK standpoint. Our local HR teams will advise you where a process is different in their region.

Do I have to apply for a vacancy using the online application system?

Yes, you are required to use our online application system. This ensures we have all your application details in one place and can administer various communications to you, including interview scheduling. It also allows us to capture key data used for reporting and process improvements.

If you are unable to apply online then please contact the recruitment team by email if you can at [email protected] or call +44 (0) 20 805 20500 and ask for the Recruitment team.

See our Online application terms of use for more details.

What should I include in my application?

You should include your CV and a covering letter with each application you make.

Your CV should ideally be no longer than two pages in length. What you include in your CV is your own personal choice but we suggest you open with a personal statement outlining your key skills and achievements. You should include your education and work history details, ensuring that you include the most recent position you have held first, focussing on key achievements and responsibilities within each role. You may wish to finish with brief details of personal interests or hobbies.

Your covering letter is very important and should be individually tailored to the vacancy you are applying for. It should briefly summarise the relevant skills and experience you believe you can bring to the role and how these match our business needs. We also want to see why you want a career with Taylor & Francis and why you are interested in the particular vacancy. Incorporating relevant research you have completed about the company, the department or our product mix will also land you in good stead. Simply producing a ‘one size fits all’ covering letter will limit your chances of success.

How long will it take for me to complete my application online?

Once you have your CV and covering letter finalised the process should take approximately 10 minutes to complete.

What can I expect during the application process?

We have broken the application process down into the following stages below:

Apply

Your CV and covering letter is submitted via the online application system on our career site. You will receive an automated email confirming your application has been received.

Review

Your application will be considered by the hiring manager and successful applicants will be contacted with regards to the next steps in the process. Unsuccessful applicants will also be notified by email.

You may be invited to undertake a skills test or video interview before the hiring manager shortlists candidates for a face to face interview.

Skills Test

If you are invited to undertake a skills test, you will receive an email including full instructions as well as the opportunity to practise before starting each test. Each skills test should take no more than 15 minutes and you will be asked to complete them within 48 hours of receiving the invitation, meaning you can complete them at a time that is convenient to you.

Video Interview

If you are invited to complete a video interview, you will be sent an email including a link with full instructions explaining how to set up, practise, and record your interview. Once completed, your video interview will be sent to the hiring manager to review.

See more information on video interviews.

Interview

Should your application be successful you will be invited via email to an interview(s). We operate a self-scheduling tool which allows you to choose from a number of available dates. T&F is an equal opportunities employer and will reimburse for reasonable travel expenses to interview.

Offer

Congratulations! The hiring manager will be in contact and will offer you the position. All unsuccessful candidates will be notified once the offer has been made.

Welcome! Once you have accepted, a start date will be confirmed and references collected. A contract of employment will be sent out to you with all details of your new post here with us.
