Our top Accessibility & Discoverability tips
At Taylor & Francis, we are committed to ensuring all products and websites are accessible to as wide an audience as possible. We strive to continually improve and update our digital content and website offerings to ensure all our customers have the best experience when using our content. We are very proud to have achieved an ASPIRE Publisher score of 71%, placing us in the top 3 for accessibility statement verification and to be shortlisted for the 2021 International Excellence Award for Accessible Publishing.
Discovery Services
Taylor and Francis prioritize making the research we publish discoverable. Using discovery services allows our users to search across a wide range of content, including print and online, to ensure the content you require is found in an accurate and efficient way.
We partner with leading discovery services including:
- ProQuest-ExLibris Primo
- ProQuest-ExLibris Summon
- EBSCO Discovery Service
- WorldCat Discovery
Link Resolvers
Link resolvers make content discovery and full-text linking easier, acting as a bridge between different databases. When a library subscribes to multiple databases and full-text resources it can prove challenging to work out if an article cited in one database is available elsewhere. Link resolvers help with this by enabling users to move effortlessly between a citation in one database to the full-text in another.
Advanced Search Capabilities
You may have noticed the updated ‘advanced search’ functionalities on our Taylor & Francis Online website which make finding the most accurate research easier than ever before.
You can now expand the parameters of your search, including by subject area, journal, and publication date as well as using Boolean operators AND, OR and NOT.
AND –search for documents containing for two or more terms
OR – search for documents containing one of two terms
NOT – search for documents that do not contain term
Readspeaker
In 2019 we introduced an innovative text to audio option to all journal content, this allows logged-in users on Taylor & Francis online to select a journal article, highlight or hover over specific sections, or by pressing play to listen to the entire article.
e-Reader
Our new eReader gives users the ability to read a growing number of journal articles in EPUB (electronic publication) format. EPUB files automatically adapt to different screen sizes, depending on the device being used – an important development considering that mobile phone usage has increased by 42% in the last year.
Plain Language Summary
Taylor & Francis now accept and encourage the submission of Plain Language Summaries with scientific submissions. Plain Language Summaries communicate the significance of scientific research evidence to a broad audience, including patients and professionals in nearby disciplines, in jargon-free and clear language. They can describe clinical trials and other original research, review articles, case reports, and congress abstracts, among other scientific publications.
Reporting Accessibility Problems
We are dedicated to making sure the Taylor & Francis website and all related websites are accessible to everyone. If you have any issues while using any of our websites, we welcome you to contact us by emailing [email protected], referencing ‘accessibility’ in the subject line.
