Mired

Mired is a unit of measurement used to represent color temperature differences, calculated by dividing the Kelvin temperature by one million. It is also known as micro-reciprocal-degrees and is expressed in decamired units. Mired scale. Because of its nonlinear visual effect, the use of the temperature scale in K is not convenient when making filter calculations. By using instead a micro-reciprocal degree (Mired) scale, obtained from 106(1/K), a filter will always shift the mired value of a light source by a fixed amount. A set of eight filters (four pink and four blue) will meet all normal requirements. Using this scale, lowering the temperature increases the mired value and as red light exhibits the lowest temperature this will give a higher mired value than will blue light. Thus the pink mired filters are said to have a positive mired shift. Conversely, the blue range are described as having a negative mired shift (see also Decamired filters, p. 138).

For this part of the study, it was necessary to categorize the measurements into ranges in accordance with Robertson (1968) and transform them according to Diakite-Kortlever and Knoop (2021). This resulted in eight intervals, ranging at values from 4000 K to 1,000,000 K. Tables 7–9 below list the categories and their corresponding intervals. The categories are built on inverse , described by micro-reciprocal-degree MIRED (MK−1), since the Kelvin scale does not account for the non-linear color perceptibility of the human eye. However, the intervals are labeled in the Kelvin scale for ease of reading.
