Analyzing the results of large-scale parametric BEM analyses, which are simulation-based experiments designed to characterize relationships between different model parameters and outputs, is also a formidable challenge (Jabi 2016). The rising popularity of machine learning and artificial intelligence has produced several commercially and freely available analysis and business intelligence software tools (e.g. Microsoft Power BI, Dundas BI, IBM Cognos Analytics), and several companies have business models based around providing analysis tools and business intelligence as services. However, integrating these platforms with BEM data can require extensive post-processing to translate the data to suitable formats. Hong, Langevin, and Sun (2018) explain that merging BEM results with business intelligence tools such as machine learning and artificial intelligence is an important future direction for the industry.
