Characterizing introduction to proof courses: a survey of U.S. R1 and R2 course syllabi

Six of the 71 courses in the Standard+ Topic category (8%) added number theory topics to the standard set of material. These courses are distinct from the Standard+ Discrete category since they only added number theory concepts specifically, and did not cover any other type of discrete mathematics such as counting, graph theory, or probability. We provide a syllabus excerpt from a Standard+ Number Theory course that includes the additional material in the middle of the course, yet still includes a majority of standard material (sets, logic, relations, functions, etc.) (Figure 10). Note that even though this course outline is distinct from the sample in the previous category, the two courses have the same name.
