S-PLUS
Published in Paul W. Ross, The Handbook of Software for Engineers and Scientists, 2018
S-PLUS is an object-oriented programming language, characterized by a set of generic functions for which specific methods are defined to operate on corresponding classes of objects. A generic function can be called with any type of object, and the appropriate method for the class of this object is automatically used; the generic function embodies a dispatch mechanism that recognizes the class of the object and finds the appropriate method for it. If no specific method exists for the given class, a default method is used.

In a more general scenario, due to a coupling of physical behaviors, the expression of is assumed herein without the split in the volumetric part and the isochoric part. In this case, the strain energy function is defined as a generic function of all the invariants of C: therefore the most general expression of PK2 Eq. (11) cannot be simplified by adopting the decoupling formulation, rewriting the derivatives of the strain energy function in a more compact way as done in Eqs. (17) and (18). Furthermore, the material Jacobian tensor has to be redefined to take into account this coupling effects described by the most general expression of

In (7)–(10), and indicate the rationality parameters of firm 1 and 2, respectively. These rationality parameters were derived using the generic function presented in (4), where the rationality of each firm was modelled as a monotonically increasing linear function of its degree, with the SCN rationality parameter, c (which controls the responsiveness of rationality to degree) set to a constant value and all link weights set to unity.
