The bandwidth of a traditional transport network is shared by multiple services. It is difficult to avoid service traffic conflicts and ensure the latency of sensitive services. FlexE is an interface technology used to implement service isolation and network slicing on transport networks. In March 2016, the Optical Internetworking Forum (OIF) officially released the first-generation FlexE standard that supports a 100 Gbit/s rate. This is defined as an intermediate layer between Ethernet layer 2 and layer 1. The standard aims to provide on-demand bandwidth on user-side interfaces and isolate interfaces to reduce latency, as shown in Figure 4.36.
