Williamson ether synthesis

Williamson ether synthesis is a chemical reaction that involves the alkylation of alkyl halides with alcohols in the presence of a catalyst. Concept of the FCVS with Ionic Liquid (IL) as an organic iodine adsorbent are now proposed as a novel technology as shown in Figure 1(b). It is known that organic iodine species like methyl iodine (CH3I) can be decomposed in a Williamson ether synthesis reaction using a deprotonated alcohol ((CH3)3CO−) as nucleophilic agent [14] as described in Equation 1.
