Molybdenum deficiency symptoms manifest in malformation of leaves (whiptail), interveinal mottling and marginal chlorosis of older leaves, followed by necrotic spots at leaf tips and margins (Romheld and Marschner, 1991). Mo deficiency results in destruction of embryonic tissues. Deficiency generally occurs in various plant tissues when concentrations are in the range of 0.03 to 0.15 mg/kg.

Compared to other series, we showed similar values of Al, Co and Mn. Thus, Suliburska et al. reported mean values of 114.8, 0.21 and 4.75 ng/mL, respectively in AF from 39 pregnant women (Suliburska et al. 2016), while Markiewicz et al. reported mean values of 138, 0.24 and 5.9 ng/mL, respectively in AF from 50 pregnant women (Markiewicz et al. 2017). A similar trend was also observed for Fe (median value = 1162 ng/mL in AF from 40 pregnant women) (Silberstein et al. 2015). Anyhow, since Fe is a trace element commonly prescribed to pregnant women, mean values of a series are bias by the number of mother who show an intake of such element, and this variable was not recorded in the present study. Moreover, iron metabolism is complex; thus, discrepancies are commonly found in the literature (Anastasiadis et al. 1981). In general terms, our series agrees with others previously published (Table 2), suggesting normal health parameters among the newborns. On the other hand, publications reporting levels of Mo in AF are scarce and often associated to molybdenum deficiency.
