Reproductive Biotechnologies Applied to Artificial Insemination in Swine
Juan Carlos Gardón, Katy Satué in Biotechnologies Applied to Animal Reproduction, 2020
The SP is not only implicated in the uterine immune response. This male fluid contains molecules, termed decapacitation factors, able to stimulate or inhibit sperm capacitation (Piehl et al., 2013), a process that modifies sperm membrane making spermatozoa able to fertilize. Within the uterus, before reaching the oviduct, SP-decapacitation factors, such as spermadhesins AQN-3 and AWN-1, coat spermatozoa to avoid early capacitation, allowing spermatozoa continue their journey toward the oocyte (Leahy and Gadella, 2011). Spermatozoa will be gradually decoated by SP-factors in order to allow the onset of capacitation and acquire fertilizing ability (Garner and Hafez, 2000).

Description: Tall, aromatic grass; culms 0.9–2 m, terete, glabrous. Leaves linear, lanceolate, purple-tinged at base, 8–10 mm broad; ligules 3–4 mm long; sheaths terete, striate. Inflorescence congested with raceme pairs in masses. Sessile spikelets 4 x 1 mm.; lower glume flat, bidentate, 2-keeled; upper glume scabrid; lower lemma empty, ciliate in the upper half, upper lemma hermaphrodite, with 7–8 mm long awn in the sinus, epaleate. Pedicelled spikelet 3.5–4 mm long, awnless.
Muscles, Soft Tissues, and Craniofacial Growth
D. Dixon Andrew, A.N. Hoyte David, Ronning Olli in Fundamentals of Craniofacial Growth, 2017
Section of the lateral pterygoid muscle in rats showed resorption of the anterior border of the mandibular condyle and growth at the posterior border, leading to deformation of the condyle (Goret-Nicaise et al, 1983). In a follow-up study, Awn et al. (1987) pointed out that the mitotic index that had been used by Petrovic and Stutzmann (1972) was a measure of multiplication of the cell population only at any given moment and not a true measure of growth throughout the experiment.

The results also suggest that the probability of being killed is 21.2% higher under AWD, 26.0% higher under AWN, 12.5% higher under PWD, and 13.6% higher under PWN conditions for older drivers compared to the young driver age group (less than 25 years old). The results show the same trend for older drivers compared to 25-29-year-old age group, where older drivers were more likely to be involved in a fatal accident by 1.4% under AWD, 15.5% under AWN, 4.0% under PWD, and 5.2% under PWN conditions. The pseudo elasticity values also show higher odds of fatal injury for older drivers compared to 30-49-year old age group, where the probability of being killed is higher by 28.4% under AWD, 29.1% under AWN, 24.3% under PWD, and 13.0% under PWN condition. Finally, older drivers are more at risk compared to 50-69-yer old age group based on the results. Compared to that group, drivers 70 years and older are 9.8% more likely to be killed under AWN, 3.8% more likely under AWN, 12.4% more like under PWD, and 2.1% more likely under PWN conditions.

A current study is aimed at treating depression in postmenopausal women. Using Tri-needles (Sishencong [EX-HN1], Neiguan [PC6], and Sanyinjiao [SP6]) combined with Danzhixiaoyao decoction, the initial results show that acupuncture combined with TCM can significantly improve the HAMD-17 score, with an effectivity of 92.68%, which is higher than that of the control group who were treated only with TCM (75.61%). Recently, we tried to treat patients with premature ovarian insufficiency by acupuncture, using Zigong (EX-CA1) with awn needles. In this study, the Kupperman score decreased by 71% compared with that before treatment. After treatment, the antral follicle count and the mean ovarian diameter were significantly increased (84.4% and 33.8%, respectively) (Table 1, Figures 1 and 2).
